Hey pilots! Spring is getting closer, the days are getting (slightly) longer, your March content updates are live, and I've got some updates on what's happening at Backseat Pilot.

Hey pilots! February content updates are live, and we've got some exciting news to share.
Content Updates

This month's updates are just for the Word/PowerPoint and PDF formats. Mac versions (Pages/Keynote) coming in the next update - my apologies, things got very busy launching our new Class Pass and finishing the FOI tool.

The Big One: Our FOI Tool is Built

The FOIs are where I see most CFI candidates struggle - and it makes sense. These concepts are completely new, but they're also the foundation of your Instructor checkride. So we're building something to fix that. And it's just the start.

And here's the vision: This same approach (and A LOT more) will eventually expand to all ACS tasks. FOI is the proving ground. Once we dial this in, we'll have this level of interactive training for everything from stalls to systems to checkride prep.

🍂 Happy Fall! Here's everything included in the October updates. The biggest change is the long-awaited, totally refreshed CFI-I PowerPoint slides. They're cleaner, sharper, easier to use, and now match the style of the recently refreshed CFI and MEI slides. (The Keynote version will be in the next update—still a little more work to do there.)

This month's updates focus on clarity, structure, and ease of use—thanks to your feedback! The biggest change: the Private and Commercial ACS Reviews have been fully reformatted using the cleaner layout from the instructor lessons, and the Airworthiness Requirements lesson also got a full overhaul for a simpler, more logical flow.

This month was a big one—and the biggest change by far? A complete reformat of the CFI & MEI lessons! While the core content hasn't changed much, the new layout is a huge improvement and sets the stage for even more enhancements moving forward.

  • No more walls of text—easier to scan, digest, and teach from
  • The "CFI Condensed Lessons" are now simply CFI Lessons—designed for teaching, with Extra Detail versions available for added context and nuance
